AMNI SOUL ECO®

AMNI SOUL ECO®

Yarn with accelerated biodegradation for textile applications

AMNI SOUL ECO® is the Fulgar yarn designed to combine the performance of polyamide with a technology engineered to promote accelerated biodegradation under specific controlled disposal conditions.

Throughout the garment’s lifecycle, AMNI SOUL ECO® maintains the technical properties required for demanding textile applications. When properly disposed of in controlled anaerobic landfill conditions, the special composition of the fiber promotes the action of microorganisms, helping accelerate the decomposition process compared to traditional synthetic yarns.

AMNI SOUL ECO®

WHAT IS AMNI SOUL ECO®?

AMNI SOUL ECO® is a biodegradable polyamide yarn engineered to accelerate decomposition under specific anaerobic landfill conditions. Developed for textile brands looking for innovative and high-performance solutions, the yarn combines the technical properties of polyamide 6.6 with a technology designed to support accelerated biodegradation at the end of the garment’s lifecycle.

Its technology is designed to activate under specific anaerobic landfill conditions. In this environment, the additives contained in the fiber facilitate bacterial access to the microscopic structure of the material, promoting biofilm formation and the accelerated biodegradation process.

According to laboratory tests conducted in compliance with ASTM D5511 standards, AMNI SOUL ECO® can promote faster decomposition compared to conventional synthetic fibers when disposed of under the intended conditions. The decomposition residues consist mainly of organic compounds, without releasing toxic components harmful to humans or the environment.

TECHNICAL PROPERTIES

Lightness

AMNI SOUL ECO® allows the development of lightweight fabrics suitable for fashion, underwear and sportswear applications, while maintaining the typical performance of polyamide.

Moisture management

AMNI SOUL ECO® delivers effective moisture management performance, helping keep the skin cool and dry during garment use.

Resistance and dyeing performance

Fabrics and garments made with AMNI SOUL ECO® maintain levels of fastness and dyeing performance comparable to those achieved with virgin polyamide, without requiring significant changes to dyeing processes.

THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND AMNI SOUL ECO® SUSTAINABLE YARN

AMNI SOUL ECO® technology is part of a new generation of sustainable yarns developed to combine textile performance with attention to environmental impact.

The secret of AMNI SOUL ECO® lies in its advanced polyamide 6.6 formula, developed by the Solvay Group and produced by FULGAR. This innovative composition allows the fiber to decompose faster in anaerobic landfills and in the marine environment at the end of the garment’s lifecycle.

Data shows that more than 50% of end-of-life garments end up in landfills. In these environments, garments made with AMNI SOUL ECO® yarns decompose up to 10 times faster than other synthetic fibers.

During garment use, microplastics released from the fiber during domestic washing also decompose up to 20 times faster in the marine environment compared to traditional polyamides.

Decomposition results were determined using ASTM D5511 and ASTM D6691 standard test methods.

LCA

LCA - Life Cycle Assessment is a process of evaluating the effects that a product has on the environment over the entire period of its life thereby increasing resource-use efficiency and decreasing liabilities. It can be used to study the environmental impact of either a product or the function the product is designed to perform, identifying and quantifying the environmental loads involved; e.g. the energy and raw materials consumed and the emissions generated. Also, evaluating the potential environmental impacts of these loads allow assessing the options available for reducing these environmental impacts.

Anaerobic High Solids Biodegradability, ASTM D6691

ASTM D6691 - Standard Test Method for Determining Aerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials in the Marine Environment by a Defined Microbial Consortium or Natural Sea Water Inoculum.

This is an aqueous aerobic biodegradability test that determines the degree and rate of aerobic biodegradation of plastic materials in seawater. Biodegradation is followed by measuring the evolution of CO2 using a suitable, analytical method.
